San Joaquin County, CA - In just a few weeks, people in San Joaquin County will be heading to the polls to pick a new Area 5 trustee for the County Board of Education. The race is between Greg Clark, who's been in the job since 2018 and is now retired from school administration, and Jordan Giannoni, who teaches at a community college.

Area 5 includes schools in Stockton, Lodi, Lincoln, Linden, New Hope, and Oak View. The person who wins this election will help make big decisions for these schools for the next six years. The County Board of Education looks after the county's education budget, deals with requests from students who want to attend schools in different districts, and decides on new charter schools, among other things.

Greg Clark wants to keep his seat on the board, but hasn't said much about what he'll do if he wins again. Jordan Giannoni, on the other hand, is talking about making sure students are ready for jobs, can read well, and have great futures ahead of them in San Joaquin County.

There are forums happening in Stockton until February 24 where you can learn more about the election and what the candidates plan to do. For more details, check out stocktonca.gov.

The Record, a local newspaper, will also be sharing guides on this and other important local races, like the Stockton City Council and Mayor, over the next few days.

Everyone in San Joaquin County is encouraged to vote and have a say in the future of local education.
