STOCKTON, CA — The San Joaquin Regional Transit District (RTD) has announced that it will offer free bus rides to local students for the entire 2024-2025 school year, continuing its effort to provide accessible transportation options for the youth of Stockton.
This beneficial program is available to students in the San Joaquin County Office of Education from grades seven through 12 and Stockton Unified School District high school students, including participants in the Young Adult Program. To utilize this service, students simply need to present their student identification card upon boarding any of RTD’s existing fixed-route local services.
RTD CEO Alex Clifford expressed enthusiasm about the ongoing partnership with local schools. "We are thrilled to continue our partnership with SUSD and to offer this vital service to our high school students," Clifford stated. He emphasized that the initiative aims to reduce transportation costs for families and support the educational journey of students.
However, the free service has its boundaries. It excludes rides on RTD’s commuter buses to Dublin and Sacramento and does not cover the Van Go on-demand rideshare service. The offer is effective from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025.
Students are reminded to maintain respectful behavior while riding the bus, as improper conduct may lead to the revocation of this privilege.
For more information about the free ride program, discounted fares, or specific routes, students and parents can contact RTD’s customer service at (209) 943-1111 or visit their website at sanjoaquinrtd.com. This initiative not only facilitates better access to education but also fosters greater independence among students in the Stockton area.
