As the gentle buzz of summer gives way to the excited chatter of students, Aspire Public Schools, a network of 36 community-based public charter schools across California, marked the beginning of its 26th academic year this July 31st. Catering primarily to students of color from underserved communities, Aspire has become a pillar of hope and transformation, educating over 15,000 students with a commitment to preparing them for college, career, and life.
A Glimpse into Aspire's Mission and Vision
With the majority of its schools nestled in the heart of California’s Central Valley—including 16 across Sacramento, Stockton, and Modesto, and 10 specifically in Stockton—Aspire Public Schools continues to uphold its three foundational goals: Prepare, Empower, and Transform.

Highlight on Aspire APEX and Stockton Secondary Academies
Among the numerous schools under the Aspire umbrella, Aspire APEX Academy and Aspire Stockton Secondary Academy stand out for their unique approaches and deep community ties.
Aspire APEX Academy, located in the Sierra Vista Housing Development, serves around 375 elementary students with a motto of leadership and service. The school, under the guidance of Principal Larrise Lane, a South Stockton native and a seasoned educator with 20 years of experience, recently celebrated the opening of its new building equipped with modern facilities including a library and art room.
Aspire Stockton Secondary Academy, on the other hand, caters to approximately 340 students in grades 6-12. Founded in 2020, ASSA has quickly established a strong identity, focusing on cultural strength and resilience among its students. Dr. LaNitra Curtis, principal of ASSA and a native of Compton, CA, leads with a vision deeply rooted in overcoming systemic barriers through education.
First Day Festivities and Educator Insights
The first day of school across Aspire’s campuses was filled with activities designed to welcome back students and set a positive tone for the year. Teachers and staff laid out green carpets and hosted raffles, while students enjoyed reuniting and engaging in various community-building activities.

Teachers emphasized the importance of engaging students from day one and helping them understand the significance of their education journey.
