Detectives have arrested a suspect in the murder of Stephanie Fagundes, a Stockton woman who was reported missing in October 2022.

In a press release on Tuesday, the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office revealed that 41-year-old Albert Gonzalez had been arrested in November 2022 at an Airport District home in Modesto. Initially, Gonzalez was wanted on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

During the investigation, detectives received information that human remains might be present at the property. After obtaining a new search warrant, they discovered dismembered and burned partial human remains. With the assistance of an anthropology team from Chico State University, the remains were identified as those of 25-year-old Fagundes.

Gonzalez now faces a murder charge in connection with Fagundes' death. The case is still under investigation, and no details have been released regarding the cause of her death.
