Stockton, CA – In a proactive step towards curbing gun violence, the Stockton Police Department is set to hold a gun buyback event on Saturday, July 20th. This initiative is part of a broader effort to decrease the number of firearms within the community.

Scheduled to take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot at 300 N. Harrison St., the event offers residents the opportunity to turn in firearms and, in exchange, receive up to $400 depending on the type of firearm. It's important to note that while non-operable firearms will be accepted, they will not qualify for any compensation.

Participants in the buyback will receive their compensation through gift cards. To ensure a smooth process, police officers will provide instructions to drivers as they enter the lot.

The police emphasize that the event is anonymous; those turning in firearms will not be required to identify themselves. All collected firearms are destined to be destroyed, aligning with the department's commitment to public safety.

For those planning to attend, past events suggest that firearms should be unloaded and placed in the trunk of the vehicle. Attendees should remain in their vehicles at all times during the event.

The Stockton Police hope this buyback will not only reduce the number of guns on the street but also raise awareness about the importance of responsible firearm disposal.
