A Stockton Police Department sergeant was shot on Wednesday morning while responding to a carjacking incident near Gateway Court and Kentfield Road. The incident took place on August 2, 2023.The police department swiftly identified a suspect in connection with the shooting and carjacking, leading to their arrest. The suspect has been identified as Sunthawon "Benny" Savon, a 20-year-old resident of Stockton. Savon was taken into custody and booked into San Joaquin County Jail.
The carjacking victim, a 69-year-old man, experienced the harrowing incident just before 3 a.m. in the 700 block of Bedlow Drive. He suffered moderate to severe injuries and was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
