STOCKTON, Calif. – The City of Stockton's Community Services Department is set to empower the city's youth with the launch of Project Toolbox, a new initiative aimed at helping teens and young adults build essential skills for both personal and professional success. Announced on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, by Community Services Director Kris Farro, this innovative series of workshops is designed to guide participants toward discovering their potential and making positive impacts in their lives and communities.

Project Toolbox will offer a variety of free workshops including college open houses, job fairs, and financial literacy sessions, all geared towards equipping young people with the knowledge and tools necessary for a thriving future. "We aim to inspire and equip teens with the tools and confidence they need to plan for a positive and successful future," Farro stated, emphasizing the program's commitment to fostering substantial growth among participants.

The kickoff event for this exciting series is a Teen Job Fair scheduled for Saturday, May 4, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Stribley Community Center located at 1760 E. Sonora St. This fair will provide teens with the opportunity to connect with local businesses offering part-time and entry-level positions, fostering early career development. Following closely, on Monday, May 6, 2024, San Joaquin Delta College will present at the same location from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., where college representatives will discuss educational and career opportunities, as well as scholarship programs available to prospective students.

Director Farro also hinted at the expansion of the workshop series, "Additional workshops will be added as we work with and identify the needs and interests of teens in our community." This expansion is made possible through Measure M funding under the Strong Communities initiative, which supports the development of new programming tailored specifically for the needs of Stockton's youth.
