Medi-Cal members in California are being encouraged to update their information promptly to ensure they do not lose their health coverage.
This comes after a waiver of the annual verification requirement for Medi-Cal eligibility during the public health emergency. Now, for the first time in almost three years, all Medi-Cal members will be required to undergo the redetermination process to prove their eligibility for the benefits. The redetermination period begins on April 1st and lasts for 14 months. Failure to complete this process on time could result in the loss of health coverage.
Mildred Pena, the Senior Director of Strategy & Execution at Health Net, a company that provides health plans to Fresno County, explained the process. Health Net has launched a campaign called "Review to Renew" to remind members about the deadline. According to the California Department of Health Care Services, hundreds of thousands of Central California residents are enrolled in Medi-Cal.
Pena advises members to look out for a yellow envelope that will be sent to their homes. Inside the envelope, they will find the necessary forms to update their information, which mainly includes proof of income, address, and identification. Even non-citizens are eligible for Medi-Cal.
Pena emphasized the importance of members taking action now to maintain their coverage and prioritize their health. "Maintaining health coverage really helps Californians stay healthy and live lives to their fullest," she said. Waiting later to complete the redetermination process puts their health at risk. Information on eligibility requirements and how to renew coverage can be found on the BenefitsCal website.
