Assemblymember Rhodesia Ransom has voiced strong opposition to a proposed federal plan that would divert water from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta to Southern California, warning that the move threatens the region’s economy, environment, and local communities.

Ransom emphasized that the Delta is vital to families, farmers, businesses, and wildlife, as well as to the cultural traditions of sovereign and state-recognized California tribes. She criticized the plan for potentially worsening environmental and economic challenges, particularly for historically disadvantaged communities.

"The Delta is essential to our region," Ransom said. "Diverting water jeopardizes the ecosystem and deepens historical injustices faced by California tribes and disadvantaged communities."

The Delta plays a critical role in California’s $5 billion agricultural economy, which depends on a stable water supply. Ransom has pledged to work alongside local leaders, environmental advocates, and agricultural industries to find solutions that protect the Delta while addressing California’s broader water management needs.

She stressed the importance of a comprehensive water management approach that balances ecological preservation with the diverse needs of residents and industries across the state.
