Washington, DC Instacart Shopper Horrified After Finding a Live Mouse Trapped Inside Walmart Bread Bag
WASHINGTON, DC – A routine grocery run turned stomach-churning for a Washington, DC woman after she discovered a live mouse trapped inside a sealed bag of bread at a Walmart — an encounter so shocking that viewers say they felt sick just watching the video.
The woman, who said she works as an Instacart shopper, shared footage of the moment after another visibly shaken customer stopped her and asked for help confirming what she thought she’d seen. When the woman checked, the fear was real: a living mouse was moving inside the bread packaging.
In the video, she can be seen holding the bag delicately by the fingertips while filming the animal inside. At one point, the mouse appeared to blink.
“It was alive too, then had the nerve to blink,” she wrote.
What Happened After the Discovery Made Her Even More Upset
In a follow-up video, the woman explained what happened once the mouse was discovered.
She said she immediately felt the entire bakery section should be treated as contaminated, given the health risks involved. However, when she and the other shopper found a team lead, she claims he only removed the single loaf of bread from the bottom shelf.
To her, that response was completely inadequate.
Later, she managed to reach the Walmart manager responsible for the bread section. He asked her to send the video as proof, which she did. According to the woman, the manager told her there is an established protocol for incidents like this — including removing all affected products and sanitizing the area.
The Mouse Escaped — Inside the Store
Things escalated further in another clip she posted showing her immediate reaction after the discovery.
The original shopper explained she first noticed something was wrong when she tried to grab the bread herself. When the Instacart worker picked it up again, the mouse’s tail was clearly visible through the bag.
Moments later, the mouse escaped the packaging entirely, meaning it was loose somewhere inside the Walmart.
That revelation horrified viewers even more.
Internet Reacts: ‘I Would’ve Bought It Then Sued’
The comment section quickly exploded with disgust, outrage, and legal hot takes.
“Would’ve bought it then sued,” one commenter wrote.
Another added:
“I would’ve purchased it, gone home, waited a few days, then sued. She missed her chance.”
Not everyone agreed there was a legal case, though.
“You can’t really sue if you weren’t physically harmed or didn’t get sick,” one person explained.
“It’s gross, but there’s no actual damage.”
@reallyfaithalliyah I really couldn’t believe my eyes. This woman in the store stopped me because she was shaking and asked me to tell her if what she is seeing is correct. I proceed to look and said yes that’s exactly what you think it is. It was alive too, then had the nerve to blink.
Some Viewers Felt Bad… for the Mouse
In a surprising twist, some commenters expressed sympathy for the animal itself.
“It’s probably scared and confused too,” one viewer wrote.
That sparked responses defending empathy:
“That’s normal empathy. Most humans have just been conditioned to be cruel.”
Others used the incident as a warning to shoppers.
“If you ever see holes in bread or chip bags, don’t buy it,” one commenter advised.
“Always wash canned goods, fruits, and veggies.”
A Gross Discovery That Left People Questioning Store Safety
With the mouse escaping inside the store, many viewers were left hoping employees were able to locate it quickly — and questioning how long it had been there before being discovered.
For many, the incident wasn’t just shocking — it was unsettling, especially for anyone who regularly shops for groceries without inspecting packaging closely.
