Oregon Animal Neglect Case: 41 Dogs Rescued from Polk County Property

MONMOUTH, OREGON — Deputies in Polk County, with help from the Oregon Humane Society, have rescued 41 dogs from a rural property after uncovering what authorities described as neglectful and unsafe living conditions.

Investigation Begins with Stray Puppy

The case started on September 11, when an animal control deputy responded to a report of a stray puppy in poor health near McCaleb Road, west of Monmouth. Investigators later linked the case to Jeanette Case, a local resident who reportedly owned several dogs of the same breed.

Large-Scale Rescue Operation

On September 23, deputies executed a search warrant alongside 12 Oregon Humane Society staff. They found dozens of large guardian-mix dogs with limited care and socialization, many in borderline health.

During the operation, deputies also found three newborn puppies abandoned in a remote area. Emergency crews removed them for immediate care, though a fourth puppy was later confirmed dead.

Owner Charged with Neglect

Authorities say Case surrendered the dogs voluntarily and has been charged with Animal Neglect II. Additional charges could be filed once veterinary examinations are reviewed by the Polk County District Attorney’s Office.

Dogs Now in Care of Humane Society

The rescued dogs are receiving treatment and evaluations at the Oregon Humane Society. Officials say the animals will eventually be placed in foster homes and prepared for adoption.

Officials thanked the community and the Humane Society for their assistance and encouraged those interested in supporting the recovery efforts to reach out to the OHS Salem branch.

This case has highlighted ongoing challenges with rural neglect investigations and the vital role of community tips in uncovering abuse.
