North Carolina Teen Charged With DWI After Deadly Hit-and-Run That Killed Pedestrian in Albemarle
ALBEMARLE, NC – A 19-year-old man has been charged after allegedly hitting and killing a pedestrian while driving under the influence, then fleeing the scene in the early hours of Wednesday morning, according to the Albemarle Police Department.
Fatal Crash on NC Highway 24/27
The deadly incident happened around 2:11 a.m. on Oct. 1 near the intersection of NC Highway 24/27 and Henson Street.
When officers arrived, they found a pedestrian with critical injuries lying on the roadway. The victim was rushed to Atrium Health Stanly, but was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name, pending notification of their family.
Suspect Arrested After Fleeing Scene
Police identified the driver as Alston Paul Burr, 19, of Albemarle. Burr allegedly fled the crash immediately after the collision but was later found at his home and taken into custody.
He now faces multiple charges, including:
- Driving While Impaired (DWI)
- Felony Hit-and-Run Resulting in Death
Burr is currently being held on a $50,000 bond, according to police reports.
Investigation Ongoing
