The Stockton Police Department (SPD) has announced it will conduct a DUI checkpoint on February 7 from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. as part of an effort to reduce impaired driving incidents and improve public safety.

While the exact location of the checkpoint has not been disclosed, SPD stated that locations are chosen based on data identifying areas with a high number of impaired driving-related crashes.

“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” said SPD Chief Stanley McFadden. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.”

SPD also reminded drivers that impaired driving is not limited to alcohol consumption. Certain prescription and over-the-counter medications can affect a person’s ability to drive, and although marijuana is legal in California, driving under its influence remains illegal.

A first-time DUI conviction can result in fines and penalties averaging $13,500, along with a suspended driver’s license.
