As freezing temperatures persist in Stockton, the city has announced the opening of overnight warming zones to provide relief for residents without access to heat or proper shelter.

According to a press release from the City of Stockton, warming zones will be available at Arnold Rue Community Center (5758 Lorraine Avenue) and Stribley Community Center (1760 East Sonora Street). Check-in begins at 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, with check-out by 7 a.m.

The warming zones are open to everyone in need of protection from the cold. Heated gymnasiums will be used as rest areas, and those staying overnight will be provided with water and snacks. Officials note that these locations do not offer full shelter services such as medical care or full meals, and they encourage those in need of additional services to call 2-1-1 or reach out to local shelters.

For those seeking more comprehensive assistance, the following shelters are available:

Gospel Center Rescue Mission – 445 South San Joaquin Street
St. Mary’s Community Services – 545 West Sonora Street

The availability of warming zones may change based on weather conditions, usage, and community needs, according to officials. Residents can find updates on warming zones, emergency preparedness resources, and weather forecasts on the City of Stockton website and SJReady.
