Jason Lee, a businessman, media personality, and CEO of Hollywood Unlocked, has officially taken office as Stockton City Councilmember for the city’s 6th District. Lee was sworn in on January 7, 2025, and will also serve as Vice Mayor.

A Stockton native, Lee rose to prominence in entertainment after overcoming significant hardships, including homelessness and foster care. His memoir, God Must Have Forgotten About Me, details his journey. Before entering media, Lee worked in education, probation, and labor relations, notably as a Labor Representative for the California Nurses Association.

Lee’s decision to run for office was motivated by a tragic incident at Stagg High School, where he once studied and worked. The fatal stabbing of 15-year-old student Alicia Reynaga led Lee to return home and advocate for local youth. Frustrated by bureaucratic roadblocks, he decided to run for office himself.

Despite skepticism from political insiders, Lee built a high-profile campaign backed by celebrities such as Kevin Hart, Floyd Mayweather, and Cardi B. He emphasized his personal experiences with homelessness, gun violence, and foster care as key reasons he understands the struggles of Stockton residents.

As councilmember, Lee plans to address rent stabilization, police accountability, and food insecurity. He also aims to engage younger voters through a registration and education campaign.

“I ain’t in it to be a politician. I’m in it to be a public servant,” Lee said, promising to bring "truth, trust, and transparency" to his role.

While continuing to run Hollywood Unlocked, Lee acknowledges that his approach in politics must be more measured. “The decisions I make here have a very significant impact on people who have entrusted me to help change what they’re experiencing,” he said.
