More rain is on the way to greater Stockton — and this round could bring heavy showers with a flood watch in effect.
After the first in a series of atmospheric river storms delivered a weekend punch of precipitation, a new round is rolling in Monday night and lasting into Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Sacramento. The latest forecast predicts heavy rain beginning after 7 p.m.
Tuesday is expected to bring a full day of chilly rain, with a high temperature of 56 degrees and wind gusts up to 26 mph, the NWS reported.
Since Friday, Stockton has received a quarter to a half-inch of rain, but this next storm could add 1 to 2 inches more, said NWS meteorologist Sara Purdue. As a result, a flood watch is in effect until 4 a.m. Tuesday amid expected periods of moderate to heavy rainfall.
The additional rain will be welcomed by San Joaquin County growers, who have only seen 4.6 inches of rain since Oct. 1, far below the seasonal normal of 7.4 inches.
Another storm is expected later in the week. After a brief clearing on Wednesday, another half-inch to an inch of rain is forecasted for Thursday and Friday.
However, relief is in sight.
“There’s (no rain) in the forecast period seven days out,” Purdue said. After Friday, “things seem to calm down for a couple of days.”
Stockton should dry out just in time for the weekend.
