Augustine Telly, the chief of staff for San Joaquin County Supervisor Mario Gardea, has been arrested, though details surrounding the arrest remain unclear.

Gardea, who represents District 1, released a statement expressing shock and disappointment. “I take my role as an elected official seriously, and I will not tolerate any behavior that undermines the public trust from anyone associated with my office,” he said. Gardea also confirmed that Telly will not receive pay while he is unable to perform his duties and that the matter will be investigated internally.

Despite the announcement, it remains unknown which agency made the arrest or what charges Telly may be facing. Both the Stockton Police Department and the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office stated they were not responsible for the arrest, and Telly’s name does not appear in county jail records.

As investigations continue, local officials are expected to provide more information regarding the case.
