Ava Community Energy will begin providing electricity service to Stockton and Lathrop in April 2025. Residential, municipal, and commercial accounts will be automatically enrolled in Ava’s Bright Choice service, which offers 5% savings on electricity generation rates compared to PG&E.
Clarification On Opt-Out Fees
Some customers in Stockton and Lathrop have received a message stating that there is a $5 fee to opt out of Ava Community Energy. However, Ava has confirmed that there is no fee to opt out through April 2026. The company is currently working to correct this misstatement in its webforms.
How The New Service Works
Ava Community Energy will purchase clean power from renewable sources and supply it to customers. However, PG&E will continue to deliver electricity using its existing infrastructure. Customers will still pay PG&E for power delivery but will no longer pay PG&E for electricity generation.
Special Rates And Solar Customers
Customers on special rates such as CARE, Medical Baseline, Electric Vehicle rates, and solar plans (NEM or SBP) will have their rates automatically transferred to Ava in April 2025.
For solar customers, Ava will now be responsible for buying surplus solar energy and supplying electricity when panels are not generating enough power. NEM and SBP customers with true-up dates between January and April will transition to Ava in April 2025. Other solar customers will be enrolled during or the month following their true-up month.
