New Study Maps Out America and Canada’s Biggest UFO Hot Spots — Washington and Alberta Lead the List
UNITED STATES & CANADA – A new study has revealed the most active UFO sighting hot spots across North America, identifying where unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) reports are most frequent — and it seems Washington and Alberta are leading the pack, according to data from the National UFO Reporting Center.
The analysis, released by Casino.ca during World Space Week, combined official reporting data with digital media coverage to determine which U.S. states and Canadian provinces have recorded the most UFO sightings per capita since 1974.
UFO Sightings Across the United States
The results showed a clear pattern — states with active volcanoes also tend to have more UFO activity.
- Washington ranked first, logging 7,625 reported UFO sightings since 1974 — about one sighting for every 1,021 residents.
- Oregon followed closely with 3,838 sightings or one for every 1,105 people.
- Florida, despite fewer sightings per capita, has seen the highest total number of UFO reports overall — 20,078 sightings, or roughly one for every 1,108 residents.
- Delaware came in fourth, with one sighting per 1,178 people, followed by New York at one per 1,236 residents.
Meanwhile, the least likely states to spot a UFO were clustered in the South:
- Louisiana had only one sighting per 3,583 people,
- Mississippi reported one per 3,403, and
- Alabama saw one per 3,238 residents.
UFO Hot Spots in Canada
In Canada, the province of Alberta emerged as the country’s top UFO capital, with one sighting per 568 people.
It was followed by:
- Ontario – one sighting per 639 residents
- British Columbia – one per 742 people
- Manitoba – one per 853 residents
- Quebec – one per 1,527 people
However, when it comes to total sightings, Ontario took the lead with 22,860 recorded encounters, far surpassing other provinces. British Columbia, despite ranking third per capita, has logged 7,927 sightings — which researchers noted may be linked to the province’s volcanic geography.
By contrast, Newfoundland and Labrador was the least likely province to experience UFO activity, with just one sighting per 7,451 residents.
Why Volcanoes?
Researchers and UFO enthusiasts have long noticed that UFO reports cluster near active volcanoes and deep-water regions, leading some to speculate that these areas may act as hiding places or “bases” for unexplained aerial craft.
While the study doesn’t claim to prove extraterrestrial activity, it highlights an undeniable trend: the Pacific Northwest remains the epicenter of UFO sightings across North America.
