Monticello Street Work Alert: Major Asphalt Preservation Project Underway Across City Roads
MONTICELLO, IN – Drivers across Monticello should expect lane restrictions and limited parking this week as Rejuvtec crews perform asphalt preservation treatments on several major city streets, according to the Monticello Street Department. The ongoing work is part of a citywide maintenance plan to extend pavement life and improve long-term road safety.
Streets Affected by the Project
Crews will be working across numerous streets, including:
- Division Street
- Beach Drive
- Bluff Street
- N. Railroad Street
- Ireland Street
- 2nd and 3rd Streets
- Illinois Street
- Jefferson Street
- Marion Street
- Washington Street
Officials noted that additional roads across the Monticello area will also receive treatment this week, depending on weather conditions.
What Drivers Should Know
According to Street Superintendent Frank Arthur, workers will apply an emulsion mixture to selected streets followed by a thin layer of sand. The treatment poses no harm to vehicles and will be left to cure for about 24 hours before crews remove the sand.
Residents are asked to slow down when passing through treated areas and to avoid parking on affected streets until work concludes.
Door hangers will be distributed in advance to notify residents about street closures and treatment schedules.

City officials confirmed the project is funded by Indiana’s Community Crossings Program, which supports infrastructure improvements across small and mid-sized communities statewide. The initiative helps cities like Monticello maintain existing roads while preventing costly long-term repairs.
