Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Launches Medicare Support Program
DETROIT – The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has launched a new statewide program designed to help residents navigate Medicare coverage and long-term care options.
The initiative, called MI Options, offers free counseling for older adults and caregivers seeking guidance on Medicare enrollment, prescription costs, and resources for aging in place.
A New Resource for Michigan Residents
In a press release, MDHHS Director Elizabeth Hertel said the program will serve as a central hub for information, empowering residents to make informed choices.
“This resource hub will provide information about Medicare enrollment and prescription costs, while empowering people to make choices for their health and wellbeing, including aging in place,” Hertel stated.
Residents can access the program by calling 800-803-7174 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday. More information is also available through the state’s official website at Michigan.gov/MDHHSMIOptions.
Why MI Options Matters
Michigan’s senior population is growing, and many face challenges in understanding Medicare’s complex rules. Free counseling is expected to reduce confusion about:
- Enrollment deadlines
- Coverage options
- Prescription drug costs
- Long-term care planning
Supporters say the program could help prevent costly mistakes and give families peace of mind as they plan for the future.
Community Focus on Aging and Health
The new program aligns with ongoing community efforts to support seniors in Metro Detroit and across Michigan. Local organizations are also hosting events, such as Detroit’s Senior Task Force movie day at the Bel Air Luxury Cinema, to connect older adults with resources while building social support.
The MI Options program is now available statewide, offering Michigan residents an important tool to manage health care decisions and prepare for the future.
