Louisville Man Dies After Being Found Unresponsive in Eastern Kentucky Prison Cell
WEST LIBERTY, KENTUCKY — A 34-year-old Louisville man incarcerated at the Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex (EKCC) has died after being found unresponsive in his prison cell, according to the Kentucky State Police (KSP).
Inmate Found During Morning Count
Authorities said correctional officers discovered Robert Broyles unresponsive in his cell around 8:50 a.m. Sunday while conducting the morning count.
Life-Saving Efforts Unsuccessful
Officers and medical personnel attempted life-saving measures, and Broyles was transported to a nearby hospital. Despite efforts, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Investigation Points to Possible Foul Play
KSP said their preliminary investigation suggests foul play, though officials emphasized that findings are subject to change as the case remains under active review.
Community Concerns
The death raises further questions about safety and conditions inside Kentucky correctional facilities, particularly at EKCC, which houses thousands of inmates. Officials have not disclosed whether any suspects have been identified in connection with the case.
