Louisiana Man Sentenced to Life for Killing Estranged Wife and Her Mother, Shooting Her Father

SHREVEPORT, LA – A 32-year-old Louisiana man will spend the rest of his life in prison after being convicted of murdering his estranged wife and her 70-year-old mother and attempting to kill her 77-year-old father during a January 2024 home invasion, prosecutors said.

Conviction and Sentencing

On Sept. 19, Donald White II was sentenced to two life terms for second-degree murder and an additional 50 years for second-degree attempted murder, the Caddo Parish Clerk of Court’s Office confirmed to Law&Crime.

A jury took just one hour of deliberation on Sept. 10 before finding White guilty of the killings of Jasmine Johnson, 29, and her mother, Joan Johnson, 70.

The Fatal Shooting

The shootings occurred on Jan. 14, 2024, when White forced his way into Jasmine Johnson’s home in Shreveport, where she lived with her parents and three children. Prosecutors said White opened fire, killing Jasmine and her mother while also shooting Jasmine’s father, John Johnson, 77, who survived.

“He did this — like right here,” John Johnson told jurors, recounting how White shot him during the attack. Holding his hand as if gripping a gun, Johnson said: “Pow. He shot me.”

Survivor Testimony

John Johnson testified that he woke up to find his wife lying bloodied near the bathroom door. White then turned on him and fired. Despite his injuries, John survived to testify against his son-in-law.

When White, representing himself in court, asked, “Are you a hundred percent sure it was me?” John Johnson replied: “I’m a thousand percent.”

Victim’s Statement Before Death

Police later recorded a statement from Jasmine Johnson at the hospital before her death. She described how White had chased her earlier that same day after spotting her at a grocery store.

She said White rear-ended her vehicle twice while she had two of their three children inside, forcing her off the road. Jasmine, who was 23 weeks pregnant, told officers White grabbed her by the shirt and hair, threw her to the ground, and threatened to kill her.

“I drove off quick, because he said he was gonna kill me,” Jasmine told police.

Courtroom Behavior

Throughout his trial, White insisted on representing himself but was repeatedly reprimanded by the judge for misunderstanding legal procedures. At one point, the judge had to remind him: “That’s not how this works.”

Community Impact

The murders have left a lasting scar on the Shreveport community, where family violence advocates say this case highlights the dangers estranged spouses often face. The three children present during the attack were not harmed but are now left without their mother or grandmother.
