Indiana Woman Charged After Burning Ex-Boyfriend’s Clothes in Street and Attacking Him, Police Say

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A 37-year-old woman was arrested over the weekend after police say she doused her ex-boyfriend in lighter fluid, set his belongings on fire in the street, and then ran over the smoldering pile with her car.

The suspect, identified as Krystal T. Lewis, was taken into custody Saturday afternoon near a storage facility in Indianapolis.

Incident at Storage Facility

Police said the confrontation happened around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Firefighters and officers arrived to find clothes scattered across the roadway, many of them still smoldering.

Witnesses told authorities that Lewis struck the man multiple times before leaving the scene in her Chevy Malibu, running over his belongings as she fled. In the process, she hit a curb and blew out both front tires, according to officials.

Victim’s Account

The victim told police he had recently ended his relationship with Lewis and was retrieving items from the storage unit when she arrived. He said she stepped out of her car with lighter fluid, poured it on him and his belongings, and lit the pile on fire.

He was found with scratches on his arms and a cut on his lip. Storage facility workers attempted to extinguish the flames before calling 911.

Suspect’s Statement to Police

Lewis allegedly admitted to setting the fire, telling officers, “I’m not gonna lie, I set that sht on fire.”*

During questioning, she claimed her ex had thrown an iPad at her earlier that day. She also said she went to a dollar store to buy acetone before arriving at the facility.

Charges Filed

Lewis was arrested and booked into the Marion County Jail. She faces multiple charges, including:

  • Arson (Felony)
  • Battery
  • Domestic Battery
  • Criminal Recklessness

Her initial court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.

The case underscores the volatile nature of some domestic disputes and the risks posed when confrontations escalate into violence.
