Illinois Woman Discovers ICE Agents Staying at Local Hotel, Says They’re Targeting Landscapers and Nannies: “It’d Be a Shame If Their Cars Got Towed Overnight”

CHICAGO, IL — A suburban Illinois woman says she recently discovered ICE agents staying at a hotel just blocks from her home — and claims they’ve been targeting local landscapers and nannies during early-morning raids in her neighborhood.

The woman, who goes by @left_of_centaur on TikTok, posted a viral video describing how she spotted several black SUVs and federal vehicles parked outside a hotel near her street.

“They’re staying in the hotel two blocks from me,” she said in the clip. “And they’re pulling landscapers and nannies from their homes.”

Her post quickly gained traction online, with residents expressing outrage — and brainstorming ways to push back against the unexpected ICE presence in their community.

“They’re Grabbing Parents at School Pick-Up”

In her video, the woman alleged that ICE agents detained a mother outside an elementary school during afternoon pickup.

“A mom was pulled from her car in front of her kids,” she said. “Why should children have to watch their parents get taken away after school?”

The woman said she immediately alerted village trustees and the local manager, hoping they could step in to investigate whether federal activity was being coordinated from private lodging in her area.

After pulling a mother from her car outside an elementary school at afternoon pick up, they’re now looking for landscapers & nannies on the north shore. This is what you voted for. #ice #chicago #sos

“It Would Be a Shame If Their Cars Were Towed”

Viewers flooded her comments section with suggestions — some serious, others tongue-in-cheek.

“Call every landscaping company in your village and warn them,” one commenter advised.
Another quipped, “It would be a shame if all of their cars were towed overnight.”

Others encouraged her to take a passive-aggressive but lawful stance by calling the hotel chain directly or organizing community awareness campaigns to pressure businesses not to host federal agents participating in local sweeps.

“We called a hotel in California when ICE stayed there,” one user said. “After we threatened to go public, they asked ICE to leave.”

Residents Push Back Against ICE Raids

This isn’t the first time Illinois residents have taken action against local enforcement activity.
Activists across the state — including parts of Cook, DuPage, and Kane Counties — have previously organized noise protests and hotel boycotts in response to ICE operations.

“People have shown up outside with pots and pans all night,” one commenter wrote. “If you make it uncomfortable for ICE to stay, they move on.”

The Department of Homeland Security has not confirmed whether any recent enforcement operations are taking place in suburban Chicago, though social media posts like this one have sparked fresh conversations about immigrant safety and neighborhood solidarity.

“We’re Watching Out for Each Other”

Despite the tension, many locals say they plan to stay alert and continue organizing quietly to support vulnerable residents.

“We’re not letting our neighbors get taken without people knowing,” one user commented. “They’re targeting working families — and we’re not standing for it.”
