‘I Got Mogged’: LA Woman Takes Cerca Match Out in Her Porsche—Then Her Famous Ex Walks In

LOS ANGELES, CA – One man’s dream date took an unexpected turn after his match from the dating app Cerca picked him up in her vintage Porsche for a night out in Los Angeles — only for him to find himself sitting across from her celebrity ex-boyfriend, Austin Butler.

The TikTok story, told by creator @max.matches (whose real name is Tim Matches), quickly went viral, with millions of views and endless debate over whether the encounter was real or just a marketing stunt for the dating app.

‘She Pulled Up in a Porsche and Picked Me Up’

In the video, Tim opens with what he calls “the craziest date of my life.”

He says he met the woman on Cerca, a dating app that connects users through mutual circles rather than random swipes.

“At 6:59 p.m., I hear music blasting outside my house,” he recalled. “I step outside and see a 1989 Porsche Carrera Targa. Stick shift. She’s standing there holding the passenger door open for me. I almost proposed on the spot.”

But the ride was more “Fast & Furious” than romantic.

“She’s flying down Mulholland Drive, drifting corners with music blasting,” Tim said. “We couldn’t even talk — it was pure chaos, but I was loving it.”

Dinner Date Disaster

When they arrived for drinks, the evening started smoothly — until the woman’s mood suddenly shifted.

“I could tell something was wrong,” Tim said. “Then she looks at me and says, ‘My ex is here.’

When Tim asked who, she pointed to none other than Elvis actor Austin Butler.

“Austin Butler is the man she’s pointing to,” Tim said. “He notices us, walks over, hugs her, and then looks straight at me.”

That’s when, according to Tim, Butler hit him with the now-viral line:
“I’ll take it from here.”

The woman — the same one who had picked Tim up in her Porsche — reportedly just shrugged before walking away with Butler.

“Talk about getting mogged,” Tim said. “I just got up and Ubered home.”

What Does ‘Mogged’ Even Mean?

For anyone unfamiliar with the internet slang, “mogged” comes from “mog,” a term used in online culture to mean “completely outclassed or dominated by someone else.”

In this case, Tim says he was “mogged” by Austin Butler — a celebrity, model, and A-list actor — while sitting on a first date he thought was going perfectly.

TikTok Calls It Out as a Marketing Stunt

Despite how cinematic the story sounds, many viewers weren’t buying it.

“OK, I’m gullible, but Austin Butler? There’s no way,” one commenter wrote.

Another said they had to Google both “mogged” and “Austin Butler” after hearing the story, joking that “Cerca’s PR team deserves an Oscar.”

Others accused the story of being a staged marketing ploy, since Cerca has recently been promoting itself through viral, story-based TikToks.

“Cerca is trying too hard with this ‘organic dating story’ strategy,” one user commented.

BroBible noted that it’s unclear whether the post was part of an official campaign, but confirmed that Cerca has been building a social media presence with dramatic “dating tales” and influencer collaborations.
