Florida Truck Driver Out on Bond Mows Down 13-Year-Old Girl Walking on Sidewalk, Crashes Through Fence as He Flees, Police Say

JACKSONVILLE, FL – A 54-year-old Florida truck driver has been arrested after allegedly plowing into a 13-year-old girl walking on the sidewalk, then crashing through a chain-link fence before fleeing the scene, according to police.

The Fatal Hit-and-Run

Authorities say Genesis Webber, 13, was walking along Arlington Road North on Tuesday night when a truck veered off the road, jumped the curb, and struck her from behind.

A passerby later found Genesis lying unresponsive and called 911. Despite emergency efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Caught on Surveillance Video

Investigators from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said nearby surveillance footage captured the entire hit-and-run.

The video shows a truck swerving violently, hitting Genesis, and then smashing through a chain-link fence before speeding off into the night.

Police tracked debris and tire marks from the scene and quickly identified Andre Myers as the suspect.

Suspect Found Asleep in Truck

Myers was located the next evening — asleep inside his truck — and arrested without incident. Officers say he was out on bond at the time for a separate aggravated assault case in which he allegedly threatened to run another man over with his car.

Court records show he had appeared in court earlier that same day before killing Genesis.

Myers is now charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death without rendering aid and is being held in the Duval County Jail on a $1 million bond. His next court date is scheduled for Oct. 23.

Mother’s Grief: ‘No Words for the Pain I Feel’

In a GoFundMe created to cover funeral expenses, Genesis’s mother wrote:

“There are no words for the pain I feel right now. I just want to fight for justice and safety so no other family has to endure what I am going through.”

Community members have since rallied in her memory, demanding stricter penalties for repeat offenders and stronger safety measures on pedestrian routes.
