Fall-Like Weather Pattern Brings Cool Temperatures to Mid-Michigan as August Ends

LANSING, Mich. – A stretch of fall-like weather has arrived in Mid-Michigan, bringing chilly nights and below-average daytime highs as the region closes out the final days of August.

Forecasters say overnight lows are dropping into the mid-to-upper 40s, roughly 10 degrees cooler than average for this time of year. Daytime highs are expected to stay well below the seasonal norm of 80 degrees.

Cooler Temperatures Through Midweek

A slow-moving low-pressure system over eastern Canada is pulling in northwesterly winds, keeping temperatures cool.

  • Tuesday: Sunshine in the morning, clouds later with a chance of a stray shower. Highs near 70°F.
  • Tuesday Night: Skies clear again, lows dipping into the mid-40s.

Midweek Warming, Then More Rain

By Wednesday, southerly winds will help temperatures rebound slightly, pushing highs into the mid-70s under partly sunny skies.

On Thursday, a cold front will move through the region, bringing widespread showers and highs falling back into the upper 60s. A few rumbles of thunder are also possible.

Labor Day Weekend Outlook

The extended forecast looks favorable for outdoor plans as the holiday weekend approaches:

  • Friday: Partly cloudy with highs in the upper 60s.
  • Saturday–Monday: High pressure brings dry weather and mostly sunny skies, with highs gradually climbing into the mid-to-upper 70s.

Forecasters say conditions should be ideal for the unofficial end-of-summer celebrations.

As Michigan eases into September, the weather is giving residents an early taste of autumn.
