Duluth Weekend Weather: 35+ MPH Wind Gusts, Scattered Showers, and Thunderstorms Expected
DULUTH, MN – Residents across northern Minnesota should brace for a windy and unsettled weekend, with the National Weather Service (NWS) warning of gusts topping 35 miles per hour and scattered storms late Saturday into Sunday.
Wind Gusts Could Exceed 35 MPH
Forecasters say the strongest winds will arrive on Sunday, when gusts of 35 mph or higher are likely across much of the Duluth region. If conditions worsen, the NWS may issue a Wind Advisory.
Gale Watch on Lake Superior
Along Lake Superior’s North Shore, conditions could be especially dangerous for boaters. The NWS has posted a Gale Watch, warning of gale-force winds that may create hazardous marine travel near Grand Marais, Silver Bay, and Two Harbors.
Marine forecasts predict peak gusts ranging from 30 to 40 mph across much of western Lake Superior, and boaters are urged to avoid travel if possible.
Rain and Thunderstorm Outlook
While winds will dominate the weekend forecast, scattered rainfall is also expected. Showers and isolated thunderstorms are predicted to develop Saturday night into Sunday.
Rainfall amounts are expected to be light overall, but forecasters caution that some areas may see brief thunderstorms before the system clears.
Cooler, Calmer Conditions Next Week
After the windy system passes, the region is expected to see a return to cooler and calmer weather beginning Monday, bringing temperatures closer to early October averages.
