Arizona Brothers Beat and Choked Their Dad to Death After He Demanded They “Fight or Get Out”: “We Just Wanted to Be Left Alone”

GOODYEAR, AZ — Two brothers in Arizona are behind bars after police say they beat and strangled their 41-year-old father to death during a heated family fight that started with the man demanding they “fight or get out of his house.”

According to investigators, Dayvon Jones, 22, and Antwan Jones Jr., 23, told officers they “just wanted to be left alone” after years of alleged physical abuse from their father, Antwan Jones Sr.

A Morning Fight Turns Deadly

The deadly confrontation happened around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday inside the family’s Goodyear home near Estrella Parkway and Lower Buckeye Parkway, police said.

When officers arrived, they found Antwan Sr. unresponsive inside the house. Despite CPR and emergency treatment, he was pronounced dead shortly after at a nearby hospital.

Police said the sons initially called 911 to report that their father had been the aggressor and that they acted in self-defense during a violent altercation.

“He Told Us to Fight or Get Out”

According to court records, the brothers told detectives the argument began the night before, when Antwan Jr. told his father he didn’t like him and wanted to be left alone.

The next morning, their father allegedly entered their room while they were playing video games and began “antagonizing” them, demanding they “stand up and fight or get out of his house.”

Police say that’s when Antwan Sr. punched his 23-year-old son, giving him a bloody nose. Dayvon reportedly grabbed his father from behind and put him in a chokehold while his older brother hit him several times.

After about 15 seconds, they said their father made a “grunting noise” and went limp. The brothers released him — but it was already too late.

“We Were Living in Fear”

The brothers told detectives they immediately fled the house, afraid their father would recover and attack them again.

“We were living in fear,” Dayvon told police, according to a probable cause affidavit. “We just wanted him to stop.”

Their mother later confirmed that Antwan Sr. had a history of violence, including an incident years earlier where he allegedly assaulted and strangled one of his sons.

Still, prosecutors say the evidence shows the killing went beyond self-defense.

“This was an extremely violent confrontation,” investigators wrote. “The level of force used was lethal.”

Facing Murder Charges

Both brothers were arrested at the scene and booked into the Maricopa County Jail, where they are each being held on $500,000 bond.

Dayvon faces second-degree murder and aggravated assault charges, while Antwan Jr. has been charged with aggravated assault.

Police say the case remains under investigation as detectives review domestic violence history and statements from family members.
