Alabama Police Chief Resigns After Disturbing Video Allegedly Shows Him Harassing 18-Year-Old Dispatcher Inside Station

CORDOVA, AL — A small Alabama town is reeling after a disturbing surveillance video allegedly showed its police chief sexually harassing an 18-year-old dispatcher inside the department’s headquarters.

Cordova Police Chief Jason Hare, a married father who had been on the job for only four months, resigned this week after the footage surfaced — sparking outrage across the community and calls for accountability.

Mayor Jeremy Pate confirmed Hare’s resignation Monday, adding that the city has launched an administrative investigation but no criminal charges have been filed.

“We’re aware of information that is being circulated regarding a city employee,” Pate said in a statement to AL.com.
“We take all reports of employee misconduct seriously and respond promptly and thoroughly.”

The Video That Sparked Outrage

The alleged incident was captured on August 26, 2025, by the police department’s internal surveillance system.

In the silent video, the young dispatcher is seen working at her desk when Hare walks up behind her. Moments later, he begins touching her hair and leaning over her. The dispatcher appears uncomfortable and gestures for him to stop, but Hare continues hovering near her.

Seconds later, Hare allegedly grabs the woman’s head and pulls her toward him, before placing his hands around her neck.

The footage, which reportedly circulated privately among staff before leaking online, quickly went viral — with many viewers calling it “sickening.”

“She Was Terrified to Come Forward”

According to a family member, the dispatcher was too frightened to report the harassment on her own.

“She wasn’t going to say anything. She didn’t know what to do,” the family member told AL.com. “This was her first job — and he was her boss.”

It was reportedly another employee who noticed the encounter while reviewing surveillance footage and alerted supervisors, triggering the internal investigation that ultimately led to Hare’s resignation.

“She was terrified, but once it came out, she felt relieved to know she wasn’t alone,” the family member added.

The dispatcher’s identity has not been made public due to her age and the nature of the allegations. She reportedly still works for the department and is receiving support from her family.

“Disgrace to the Badge”

The city of Cordova — located in Walker County — has been rocked by the scandal, with residents demanding to know why no criminal charges have been filed.

“He should be in handcuffs, not just unemployed,” one local wrote on Facebook.
Another commented, “You can’t have cops policing cops. That’s how this stuff gets buried.”

Attempts to reach Hare for comment have been unsuccessful.

What’s Next for the City

While the mayor’s office confirmed an administrative probe is ongoing, no official disciplinary action beyond Hare’s resignation has been announced.

Cordova’s police department is now operating under interim leadership while officials consider whether to request outside assistance from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).

Residents are also calling for mandatory harassment training for city employees and stronger oversight of police leadership hires.
