Last week we found a report of an armed gunman threatening people on Hammer Lane. Police responded and ended firing on the man leaving him deceased. Recent updates have shed light on the gunman and who he is. Here is everything you should know.
Rico Ruiz-Altamirano was the gunman last Tuesday morning.
Altamirano was a veteran who was known as “protective, loyal, and fierce.”
His death was ruled accidental and his family now is demanding answers.
No officers or citizens were harmed, police said.
Altamirano struggled with his mental health, including with PTSD from the war, his wife, Samantha Lopez-Altamirano, said. While also suffering a brain injury during his time in Afghanistan.
It has also been reported by the Record that he reached out for help but complications with the VA would constantly occur.
