Concerns were raised earlier this week when an 18-year-old female student from Jane Frederick Continuation High School in Stockton was reported missing on Wednesday around 1 p.m. Subsequent rumors suggested a possible kidnapping during school hours, leading to heightened anxiety among students and parents.
However, after a thorough investigation, the student was located in Stockton. According to police spokesman David Scott, she confirmed that "nothing of criminal nature" had taken place.
Before her safe return, the Stockton Unified School District felt the urgency to communicate with parents about the ongoing situation. In a letter, they mentioned, "Stockton Police is investigating an isolated incident involving an 18-year-old student. Officers are investigating a possible attempted kidnapping of a student at release from a known individual." The school district was notified about the incident by the Stockton PD at 3:30 p.m., post school hours.
It's important to note that the district maintains a policy of alerting parents whenever there's police or fire activity nearby a school, ensuring transparency and fostering a sense of safety within the school community.
