The County has been back for a full school year since COVID-19 pandemic and the student’s learning has suffered. Studies have been done across the state to find out how in person learning has affected kids in the post pandemic world. SUSD has shown clear signs of need.
The Stockton Unified School District has shown surprising numbers on their test scores in subjects such as math and english. The study shows that the percentage of students struggling below California standards was 85% for Math and 73% for English courses. With these numbers being very jarring what can be done? Ben Irwin from The Record.net writes, “Learning loss came in tandem with significant mental health challenges at home and at school for students. Districts are now prioritizing hiring counselors and mental health clinicians to be at school sites to “serve the basic needs of students before the student can even begin to learn,” said Lisa Neugebauer.”
