Stockton welcomed its newly elected officials during a swearing-in ceremony at the Bob Hope Theatre on Tuesday night, drawing hundreds of hopeful residents eager for change.

The event marked the beginning of Christina Fugazi’s term as Stockton’s mayor. A long-time educator and assistant principal at Stagg High School, Fugazi emphasized her commitment to community-driven leadership. “The people showed up, the people want change – they voted and they’re getting their wish,” Fugazi said. “Now, we can’t just tell them what we’re going to do. We have to show them.”

Jason Lee, founder of the Hollywood-based multimedia platform Hollywood Unlocked, was unanimously voted in as vice mayor after his election as District 6 councilmember. Known for his celebrity connections and entrepreneurial success, Lee expressed excitement about engaging with the community. “I just love the fact that people came out, were civically engaged, and were participating,” Lee said.

The ceremony also celebrated the swearing-in of Mariela Ponce and Mario Enriquez as new city councilmembers. Nearly 50 people spoke during public comments, sharing their gratitude and optimism for Stockton’s new leadership.

“This isn’t something I ever aspired to do, but because of the community we have, I’m ready to do the work,” Fugazi added.

Stockton’s new leaders have promised to address key issues, with the community eager to see how their promises will translate into action.
