On Friday, September 20, 50 students from Aspire Schools in Stockton will get a behind-the-scenes look at the Stockton Ports’ Minor League Baseball operations as part of the San Joaquin A+ fall job shadowing initiative. The program, designed to expose students to a wide range of career opportunities, is a collaborative effort between Stockton area schools, San Joaquin A+, and local businesses like the Stockton Ports.

Students from Aspire Ben Holt, Aspire Langston Hughes, and other local schools within Stockton Unified and Lodi Unified School Districts will have the chance to explore various departments within the Stockton Ports organization. From marketing and social media to ticket sales and hospitality, students will rotate through different departments to gain hands-on experience and learn about the diverse careers that keep a professional sports organization running.

This initiative comes as part of the Stockton Ports' community engagement efforts following their thrilling 2024 season. It aims to provide students with valuable insights into career paths in the sports industry while offering a unique look at what happens off the field.

The tour will take place at Banner Island Ballpark, where students will meet with professionals from each department, learning about their roles and responsibilities, and gaining an understanding of the skills needed to succeed in those positions. Students will also have the opportunity to engage in a roundtable Q&A panel moderated by a Ports emcee, allowing them to ask questions and expand their knowledge of potential career paths.

Key participants include Stockton Ports General Manager Jordan Feneck, Assistant General Manager Chris Zavaglia, and leaders from San Joaquin A+ and Aspire Public Schools, all of whom have worked together to make this opportunity possible.

The event is part of a broader effort to connect Stockton students with local industries, helping them explore new horizons and build meaningful career connections.

This job shadowing experience offers students a rare glimpse into the world of sports management, providing them with tools and inspiration for their future careers.
