Stockton Scholars, a program under the Reinvent Stockton Foundation, has unveiled its Mentor Program, coinciding with National Mentor Month. Geared towards Stockton Scholars students, the initiative aims to provide valuable resources for professional growth and network expansion. The program is actively seeking 200 committed professionals willing to share their expertise and knowledge through mentorship, aiming to inspire the next generation of leaders.

The Stockton Scholars Mentor Program is envisioned as a cornerstone resource for students, offering personalized guidance to navigate the unique challenges of their academic journey. Missy Magdalera, Stockton Scholars Outreach and Retention Coordinator, emphasizes the power of mentoring in empowering scholars to make informed decisions about academics, career paths, and personal development.

“Mentoring is a powerful tool that not only empowers our scholars during their academic journey but also inspires them to thrive in their careers and contribute meaningfully to the world around them,” said Magdalera.

To qualify as mentors, individuals must be at least 21 years old, hold a postsecondary degree or certificate, and reside in the State of California. The mentorship program includes a mandatory orientation in August, with mentor-mentee pairings commencing in the fall as the school year begins. The pairs are expected to meet for two hours per month until May.

Missy Rae Magdalera, Stockton Scholars Student Outreach and Retention Coordinator, further expounded on the significance of mentorship through an Op-Ed, available on the Stockton Scholars website here.

The Mentor Program application window is open from January 22 to May 24, 2024. Those interested in becoming mentors are encouraged to visit Stocktonscholars.org to learn more about the program and the application process. A survey for potential mentors is available at www.tinyurl.com/inspirethenextgen. For inquiries, individuals can reach out to mentor@stocktonscholars.org.

As Stockton Scholars continues to foster educational empowerment, the Mentor Program stands as a vital component to guide and uplift students on their academic and professional journeys.
