Crime seems though it has been rising over the past few weeks and it is very early on in the year. Stockton Police Chief Stanley Mcfadden visited a local barber shop downtown to show support, where the recent shooting was near.
“We’re here to support their businesses here; we want their customers to feel safe; we want the businesses to feel safe,” McFadden said. “We’re here to just open up the communication and while we’re doing that, we’re also here to recruit.” Police are talking about strategies in addressing the recent spike in crime. One of their goals is bringing in more officers to keep an eye on the streets. Tracie Glaves, founder of the San Joaquin Delta Neighborhood Watch is encouraging community members to take preventative measures.
“If you see something, say something. If you know something, use Crime Stoppers. It’s a fabulous tool for our law enforcement,” Galves said. “Start community watches.” Police say they will continue doing their outreach around the city over the next few weeks. Mental health resources are also going around with them to offer services to anyone dealing with the loss of a loved one due to community violence.
It is time for Stocktonians to become unified now more than ever. Things like this can’t and won’t over run this city. Keep your eye out for anything suspicious and look out for your fellow neighbor. For the full story visit Josie Heart’s article on KCRA3 website.
