In a move aimed at bolstering responsible gun ownership and curbing gun violence, the Stockton Police Department is set to conduct a firearm buyback event this Saturday, January 20, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will take place at the Edison Street Parking Lot, located at 425 N. Edison St., Stockton, CA.
As a key feature of the initiative, individuals turning in firearms are assured of anonymity, with no requirement to provide personal identification information. The focus is on creating a secure environment for community members to voluntarily surrender firearms, contributing to broader efforts to enhance public safety.
All firearms collected during the buyback will be responsibly destroyed, reinforcing the commitment to preventing these weapons from re-entering circulation. To facilitate a smooth process, vehicles are instructed to enter on Edison St and follow the directions provided by SPD employees.
Participants are reminded to ensure that all firearms are unloaded and securely placed in the trunk of their vehicles. For the safety of all involved, both drivers and passengers are required to remain in their vehicles throughout the process, adhering to guidance from SPD employees.
The buyback amounts, ranging from $200 to $400, will be determined based on the type of firearm surrendered. It's important to note that non-operable firearms will be accepted for destruction, but no monetary compensation will be provided for these items. Instead, participants will receive Cash Gift Cards as redemption.
