Stockton Mother Killed On New Year’s Day; Son Charged

A tragic New Year’s Day shooting in Stockton has left a 47-year-old mother dead, with her son facing charges in connection with the incident.

Officers responded to the 2400 block of Gareth Circle around 11 a.m. on January 1, where they found Latoya Scrivens with a gunshot wound. Scrivens was transported to a hospital but later succumbed to her injuries, according to the Stockton Police Department.

Later that evening, police identified Scrivens' son, 20-year-old Jkwon Williams, as the suspect. He was located within hours of the shooting and taken into custody. On January 2, Williams was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on suspicion of voluntary manslaughter and weapons charges.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
