In a recent update from the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of California, Maleek Carter-Rea, a 22-year-old Stockton resident, pleaded guilty on Monday to the federal offense of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
This case dates back to March when Carter-Rea, along with several others, was captured in social media videos flaunting firearms. Subsequent to these videos, law enforcement officers undertook surveillance and eventually pulled over the vehicle Carter-Rea was in. A Glock 48 firearm was discovered lying beside his feet, as confirmed by prosecutors.
It's noteworthy that Carter-Rea was already legally barred from possessing firearms due to a prior state felony conviction for robbery in San Joaquin County.
Carter-Rea's sentencing is set for Nov. 6. If convicted, he could face a hefty sentence—up to 15 years behind bars and a fine that could reach $250,000.
