A Stockton man has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the 2022 shooting death of 23-year-old Tyrique Harris outside the Golden 1 Credit Union on Pacific Avenue. A jury convicted 45-year-old Laonard Allen Alexander, the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office announced on Wednesday.

Along with the murder charge, Alexander was also convicted of a firearm enhancement, which increases his potential prison sentence. He now faces up to 50 years to life in prison.

“This senseless act of violence has no place in our community,” said District Attorney Ron Freitas. He credited the Stockton Police Department, Deputy District Attorney Kathy Murray, and Judge Orcutt for their roles in securing justice for Harris and his family.

The tragic event unfolded on August 11, 2022, when a fight broke out at the Golden 1 Credit Union at 10:34 a.m. A 911 call was made, but no officers were dispatched due to higher-priority calls at the time. Fourteen minutes later, Harris was shot outside the bank.

Surveillance footage revealed that Harris and Alexander had a brief altercation before Alexander entered the bank, completed a transaction, and left. He later returned, parked behind the bank, and fatally shot Harris six times before fleeing the scene. Alexander was arrested less than a month later in San Pablo by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force.

Alexander’s sentencing is scheduled for October 21.
