In a heart-wrenching incident in Stockton, California, a family is grappling with the loss of their son, Roger Eugene Foy Holmes, who was fatally stabbed while protecting his loved ones during a terrifying confrontation at their home on Tuesday night.

Roger, 31, was remembered by his family as a beacon of joy and love. "He was just a great guy to be around. He was so fun. He was so loving. He was just overall just a great man," recalled Breanna Holmes, Roger's sister, amidst tears. The devastating event unfolded when an intruder, identified by Stockton Police as 27-year-old Colbrin Mahan, threatened the Holmes family on their property.

According to Tracy Holmes, Roger's mother, the assailant's demands were irrelevant to the family, who would have given anything to avoid the loss of their son. "If he wanted money, I would have gave it to him. He could have anything; he did not have to take my son!" she lamented.

The situation escalated when Mahan, after threatening to kill Roger's sister, was confronted by Roger, who heroically pushed her out of harm's way. In the ensuing struggle, Roger was fatally stabbed, and his father, Raymond Holmes, 57, was also wounded but survived the attack with non-life-threatening injuries. "My son is gone, over senseless violence," Raymond stated, mourning the loss of his son who he hailed as the true hero of the ordeal for his selfless act of bravery.

The family, known for their close-knit bond and Roger's unwavering commitment to looking after his mother and grandmother, now finds solace in remembering him not only as a hardworking individual but as a hero who lived up to his promise of protecting his family at all costs.

As the community reels from this senseless act of violence, questions arise regarding the release of individuals like Mahan, who was on a Post Release Community Supervision program. "Why let all these crazy people out," Tracy Holmes questioned, echoing a sentiment of frustration and grief over a system that she believes failed to protect her family.

Colbrin Mahan is currently in custody, facing several felony charges, including a violation of his probation terms. His court appearance is scheduled for Friday, February 16, in Stockton, as the investigation into the motives behind this tragic event continues.

The Holmes family, while devastated, clings to the legacy of their son's heroic sacrifice, a testament to the depth of his love and commitment to his family. The community is left to reflect on the impact of violence and the precious lives cut short in its wake.
