Stockton DMV Office Closing As Services Move Online

The Stockton area Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office is set to close its doors this week as part of the DMV’s transition to online services. The Stockton Driver Safety Office (DSO), located at 710 North American St., will officially close at 5 p.m. on Friday.

The office mainly served drivers seeking hearings regarding possible DMV actions to suspend or restrict their driving privileges. The California DMV announced that these services will no longer be available in person at the Stockton location and will instead be moved to an online case management system. This new system will allow drivers and their attorneys to check their case status and meet the requirements to reinstate a suspended license. It will also offer virtual hearings, making the process more accessible without the need for in-person appointments.

The Stockton DSO closure is part of a broader effort by the California DMV to consolidate Driver Safety Offices and move more services online. The DMV plans to continue reducing the number of in-person locations as they expand online service options. Employees at the Stockton office will be reassigned to other nearby DMV locations.

For those who need in-person assistance, the nearest Driver Safety Office to Stockton is located in Sacramento at 4700 Broadway on the 2nd floor.

This shift is aimed at improving convenience for drivers by offering more services online, reducing the need for travel and in-person visits.
