A town hall meeting will be held on Monday, April 17, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Arnold Rue Community Center in Stockton, California, in response to the recent surge in violence, including a deadly shooting near Cesar Chavez High School that left 17-year-old Thai Khin dead.
The event is a collaborative effort between the City of Stockton, the Stockton Unified School District, the Stockton Unified Department of Public Safety, and the town hall. Mayor Lincoln has urged city residents to attend the meeting in order to support victims and survivors of violent crime, protect children, and encourage community unity.
The town hall was organized following the tragic death of Thai Khin, who was killed during an attempted robbery that also left his friend injured. The two suspects responsible for the shooting are still at large. This incident marks the 20th homicide in Stockton in 2023, which is the same number of homicides recorded by the end of April 2022, matching the city's deadliest year on record in 2012.
The Stockton Police Officers' Association has reported that the police department is currently facing a staffing shortage, with nearly 120 officers down. The town hall aims to address these issues and explore possible solutions to combat the increasing crime rates in the city.
Community members are encouraged to attend the town hall to share their thoughts, concerns, and ideas on how to improve public safety and support each other in these difficult times.
