In a proactive effort to help residents and businesses brace for the upcoming winter storms, the City of Stockton and Sacramento County are jointly offering free sandbags. This initiative aims to assist communities that have previously faced flooding during the 2022-2023 winter season or encountered high water levels during heavy rainfall.
Residents and businesses located in flood-prone areas or those seeking to safeguard their properties during the rainy season can take advantage of this valuable resource.
Sacramento County Locations:
Sacramento County provides the sandbags and sand, but residents are required to bring their shovels to fill the bags. It's essential to note that there is a limit of 20 bags per visit. For residents outside Sacramento County, it is advisable to check with their respective cities for sandbag information by visiting www.stormready.org.
Stockton Locations: Residents in Stockton can access sandbags at the following locations on November 4th and November 11th, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
In Stockton, sandbag stations are self-service and require individuals to bring their shovels for filling. Visitors to these stations should bring identification with a City of Stockton address. City employees will be on-site to assist those needing help with bag filling and loading.
It is highly recommended to replace sandbags from the previous year with newer ones due to potential deterioration.
As winter approaches, these initiatives by Sacramento County and the City of Stockton serve as a valuable resource for residents and businesses to proactively protect themselves against the challenges posed by winter storms.
