The Pacific women’s soccer team is gearing up for a Thursday night showdown against New Mexico State at Knoles Field. The Tigers (1-2) will host the undefeated Aggies (3-0-1) at 7 p.m., marking the third time the two teams have met in series history.
Pacific, led by co-head coach J.J. Wozniak, is looking forward to the challenge as they continue a three-game homestand. “Hosting two more matches this weekend is something we are all looking forward to,” Wozniak said. “Every program out there is competing for results, so it will be another challenge on Thursday night and our group knows we have to be ready to compete from the opening whistle.”
The Tigers opened their season with a 2-1 victory over Houston Christian, with graduate student Taylor Curtis and junior Alexis Pashales scoring the goals. Sophomore goalkeeper Libby Davy has been a strong presence in net, starting all three games and recording 11 saves.
New Mexico State, under the guidance of seventh-year head coach Rob Baarts, has had an impressive start to their season. After a 2-2 tie against a ranked USC team, the Aggies secured three consecutive home wins. Thursday’s match will be their first road contest of the 2024 season.
The last meeting between these two teams occurred in 2023, with New Mexico State claiming a 3-1 victory in Las Cruces, New Mexico. In that game, Davy made four saves, and Pashales registered a shot on goal. The Tigers won the only other encounter between the two programs, a 2-1 victory on the road in 2018.
Pacific will remain at home after Thursday’s game, concluding the weekend with a match against Cal Poly on Sunday at 1 p.m.
