The University of the Pacific has introduced the Pacific Shuttle, a new transportation option for students to visit their preferred shopping destinations in Stockton.
This shuttle, which is ADA compliant and has a capacity of 20 passengers, will start its operation on April 6, making stops at several locations, such as Target on Pacific Avenue, the Miracle Mile, Sherwood Mall Shopping Center, and Lincoln Center. The collaboration between the governing student body ASuop and the Division of Student Life made this shuttle service possible.
ASuop President Angel Zhong '23 expressed enthusiasm about this initiative, stating that it is crucial for students to explore the city and engage with the Stockton community for a more enriching educational experience.
The Pacific Shuttle will be available on Thursdays and Fridays during the month of April, with hourly round trips to designated locations from 4–8 p.m. This pilot program will determine the frequency of future shuttle services.
According to Vice President for Student Life Maria Blandizzi, they hope to offer transportation options to students for shopping, dining, community service through the Volunteer Center, and enhancing the learning environment by taking classes out of campus.
To ride the shuttle, students only need to show their Pacific IDs to the driver. It operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Pacific has strong partnerships with the Miracle Mile Improvement District and other shopping districts. Participating merchants offer a 10% discount to students who show their PacificCard. Interested individuals can find a list of these merchants on the PacificCard site.
Kim Byrd ’91, executive director of the Miracle Mile Improvement District and a Pacific alumna, expressed excitement about this new opportunity, stating that students can expect to find plenty of attractions to enjoy. Additionally, the shuttle makes it much easier for students to visit the area, which is a short walk from the campus.
