Stockton, California is a city rich in history, diversity, and landmark buildings. Today we are taking a trip to the past as we list the oldest religious buildings in the city.
5. Sikh Gurdwara
Sikh Gurdwara is located off of 1930 South Grant Street. Established in 1915, it was one of the first religious centers centered around Sikhism. In 1930 another Gurdwara was built, which caused the original building to be transformed into a library.
4. St. Agnes School and Convent
The building was built between the years of 1914-1920 making over a hundred year old staple in the City of Stockton.
3. St. John's Episcopal Church
Located in the Magnolia Historic Preservation District, the church is Norman-style and was established in 1892.
2. St. Mary's Church
A Stockton, California landmark as it was the first Roman Catholic church in the San Joaquin Valley. It was established in 1861 on Washington and Hunter Streets. The church went through additional renovations from 1945-1949.
1. Original Temple Israel
Constructed in 1855 in the Magnolia Historic Preservation District it makes for the cities oldest city on the city register.
