Residents of the Morada area, just north of Stockton, were put on alert Friday night after a possible mountain lion was reported prowling in a local backyard. The sighting occurred near La Loma Way and Los Cerritos Drive, according to the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office.
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife was promptly informed of the sighting and, based on initial reports, has clarified that the animal appears non-aggressive. While there is no immediate threat posed by the mountain lion's presence, officials are not taking any chances.

As a safeguard, authorities are advising Morada residents to bring their pets indoors. The recommendation comes as a precautionary measure to prevent any potential encounters between the mountain lion and domestic animals.

For those living in the area, it's important to stay vigilant, avoid leaving food sources outside that might attract wildlife, and report any further sightings to the appropriate authorities.

The sheriff's office and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife will continue monitoring the situation and will provide updates as necessary. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and prioritize their safety and the safety of their pets.
